AmeriCorps VISTA and Hospitality and Golf Program Update b February 2010

In preparation for the bReal World Eventb, HG students participated in a career assessment workshop bCharting Your Futureb held at Communities In Schools office.B Speakers for this event were Charlie McWilliams, Retired Vice PresidentB B First Bank, Southern Pines, N.C. and Kimberly Meade, Human Resources Manager, Power Distribution Operations bB Americas Eaton Corporation.B The presenters gave instruction on personal finance, checkingbs and savings accounts, and insurance products.B Assessment surveybs were given to highlight the studentbs career cluster and a presentation on those clusters where given.

The Hospitality and Golf students will be participating in the bReal Worldb Event sponsored by Moore County Department of Social Services.B Itbs program that will give students a perspective of bReal Worldb by putting them in simulated life situations that adults face day to day.B This event will take place on April 8th 2010 9am b 3:30pm at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Southern Pines.

Hospitality and Golf students will help with a landscaping project at a housing construction site in Carthage, NC with Habitat for Humanity on Saturday March 13 2010.B Students will work from 8am -2pm preparing the site for a build.

CIS of Moore County Hospitality and Golf has gone Facebook.B This is a great tool we will use to communicate and network with the students.B We will use updates and bmessage boardsb to keep students aware of career and college access information as well as announce upcoming HG events.

A Student Resource Guide is being constructed for Moore County high school and college students.B This resource will help the students foster an awareness of the help organization and institutions within their reach to bridge need with support.B B Upon completion, this guide will be placed on the HG Facebook page.
