Stuff the Bus joined by Build a Backpack equals success for Moore Students

On Monday, August 22, 2011 Wal Mart Shift Manger Matthew Alford and Department Manager Joe Simpson helped to load the last of the school supplies donated to Communities in Schools of Moore County, Inc.(CIS). CIS collected over $14,300 in school supplies that were distributed to 22 Moore County schools.

CIS would like to Thank Wal Mart and Staples for providing collection spots at their respected establishments. CIS would also like to thank all the generous people of Moore County who donated school supplies to help our Moore County students get off to a great start this school year! The organization could not have pulled off such a successful event without the assistance of dedicated volunteers especially from the Southern Pines Rotary Club and Grace Church who braved the extreme heat when collecting, sorting and counting the items- a sincere thank you to all!
Students in need of school supplies should notify their school guidance counselor who can assist them with getting them what they need.
Through a school-based coordination, Communities In Schools connects students and their families to critical community resources tailored to local needs. By providing students with a one-on-one relationship with a caring adult, a safe place to learn and grow, a healthy start and future, a marketable skill upon graduation and a chance to give back to peers and the community, Communities In Schools has become the nationbs leading dropout prevention organization and the only one proven to both decrease dropout rates and increase graduation rates.
The mission of Communities In Schools is to surround students with a community of support, empowering them to stay in school and achieve in life!
