The My PATH program receives referrals from Juvenile Court. These students are on the pathway toward dropping out and recidivism. The program works with the students two or more days per week after school. One day is devoted to a curriculum that is trauma informed and evidence based. The students learn to connect their decision making to the trauma that they have endured. Realizing this connection helps them to make better decisions in light of the knowledge. On the other days that the students meet, they do job shadowing in the community with local businesses. This places another positive adult in their life and shows them all the opportunities that are available to them in their own community. Incentives are given to the group for meeting attendance and performance goals.
Other components that make up this program include:
- Field trips
- hands-on learning and the arts
- guest speakers
- physical challenges
